Darshanदर्शन
The auspicious sight or vision of a deity, holy person, or sacred place.
Detailed Explanation
Darshan means "sight" or "vision" and refers to the act of beholding a deity's image in a temple, a holy person (saint or guru), or a sacred site. In Hindu theology, darshan is a two-way exchange — the devotee sees the deity, and the deity sees the devotee, establishing a direct spiritual connection. Temple visits are primarily motivated by the desire for darshan. The image (murti) of the deity is believed to be a living embodiment of the divine, and making eye contact with it transmits spiritual energy. Special darshan types include Mangala Darshan (early morning), Rajbhog Darshan (afternoon), and Shayan Darshan (night). In famous temples, VIP darshan (for a fee or special arrangement) allows closer access to the deity.
