Muhuratमुहूर्त
An auspicious time period selected using Panchang for important activities.
Detailed Explanation
Muhurat (also spelled Muhurta) is an auspicious time window calculated by analyzing Panchang elements — Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, and weekday — along with planetary positions in the horoscope. Selecting a good Muhurat is considered essential for major life events such as weddings (Vivah Muhurat), housewarming (Griha Pravesh), business openings, and naming ceremonies. A Muhurat avoids inauspicious periods like Rahu Kaal, Gulika Kaal, and Yamaganda. Special universally auspicious muhurats include Abhijit Muhurat (approximately 24 minutes around local noon) and Brahma Muhurta (96 minutes before sunrise). The unit of time called a Muhurta equals 48 minutes in Vedic time measurement, with 30 muhurtas making up a full day.
