Navagrahaनवग्रह
The nine celestial influences of Vedic astrology — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu.
Detailed Explanation
The Navagraha ("nine grahas," often translated as nine planets) are Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Mangala (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Brihaspati/Guru (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus), Shani (Saturn), and the two lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu, which are shadow entities (chhaya grahas) rather than physical bodies. In Jyotish (Vedic astrology), their positions at birth and their ongoing transits and periods (dashas) are held to shape a person's fortunes, and remedies — gemstones, mantras, charity, and Navagraha shanti pujas or havans — are prescribed to pacify unfavorable grahas. Most South Indian temples have a Navagraha shrine where devotees circumambulate the nine images, and each graha governs a weekday and has its own mantra and presiding deity.
